Our Game Women & Non-Binary Persons in Media Program

OUR GAME WOMEN AND NON-BINARY PERSONS IN MEDIA PROGRAM

As part of the Leadership and Development Pillar of Football Australia's Legacy '23 Strategy designed to maximise impact of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, Football Australia launched the Our Game Women & Non-Binary Persons in Media Program to address the underrepresentation of women and non-binary persons in sports media.

The program invites up-and-coming women and non-binary persons to apply for internships as part of this exciting program. Previous intakes have offered internships in the below focus areas:

  • Photography
  • Communications and Digital Media

Through this program, Football Australia will provide successful applicants with mentoring opportunities, education, training, and on-the-job experience. Aimed to assist in building the individual's portfolio, making them more employable following the internship.

OUR GAME "IN-FRAME" INITIATIVE

As part of Football Australia's ongoing commitment to representation and inclusion across the game, the Our Game 'In-Frame' initiative was launched in June 2025, a one-day initiative providing the opportunity for up to 15 female and non-binary photographers to experience shooting an international football match.

Hosted over the June/July CommBank Matildas international window, 15 photographers attended an online workshop with Football Australia staff and a mentor photographer discussing practicalities of shooting an international match.

Football Australia’s Our Game ‘In-Frame’ initiative is part of a broader commitment to building equity in football media spaces. By creating meaningful access to elite events and offering structured development, the program helps remove traditional barriers that often limit the visibility of women and non-binary creatives in sports media.
